Employer and employee registrations must be in place before the first payroll run, not afterwards. Retrospective registration is possible but creates avoidable exposure.
Each monthly cycle carries payment and reporting obligations covering PAYE, social insurance, the medical fund and, where applicable, provident fund arrangements. Payslips must be issued to employees.
For non-local hires, work and residence permits sit alongside payroll and should be started early, since the timetable is outside the employer's control.
Contribution rates and ceilings are set by legislation and change. Confirm the current figures before budgeting employment cost.
